Guatemala producers many of the world’s finest coffees. With coffee being Guatemala’s number one export, there is a huge reliance on farmers maintaining the quality of each bean. The Highlands of the country are ideal for coffee cultivation due to high altitudes and rich soil from surrounding volcanoes. The climate allows the coffee to mature slowly, which is said to concentrate the coffee beans flavours.

This coffee is from Finca La Ruda, which is located close to the Honduran border. The Esquipulas region is not often considered to be suitable for growing coffee due to its high humidity. Hidden in the hills is Jose David Guerra’s farm. The location has its own micro-climate which allows him to grow with high efficiency and quality, making his farm a treasure to find. Locating the farm through the winding countryside presents you with picturesque landscapes teeming with wildlife. The farm is built around the local environment and has many native trees and foliage that is matched by an equally wide array of birds, monkeys and reptiles.
